2024 training: Five questions. Five answers.

15 January

Q: How am I training for the new season?

A: “I’m in the gym every two days for about 45 minutes at the moment and most of the work I’m doing is focused on endurance training. I’m doing lots of interval sessions on the bike, rowing machine, and running machine.

“I normally do two or three 15-minute intervals of intense exercise and then have a rest period. That’s the nicest part for me! I also do some exercises on the weight machines to help support my core strength and to condition my muscles.

“I’m incredibly lucky to be supported by Update Fitness in Zürich. As a Swiss Karting Champion, they let me use their gym facilities for free. Thanks guys!”

Q: What fitness results am I looking to achieve?

A: “My training is all about improving my strength and endurance. Karting is a sport that's very physically demanding and you need to be in the best physical shape. If you can power through a race and not face any issues with fatigue, you’re normally in a good position to get a strong result.”

Q: Who sets my training programme?

A: “I train myself in the gym and at home. I have a really good App called ‘Gymondo’ that I use on my phone and it gives me all the exercise I need to do to achieve my targets. Until I reach 14 years of age, I have to go to the gym with an adult and that’s usually my mum. She does some training herself and we always have fun keeping each other company. I also do some training on the App with my grandmother at home.”

Q: What’s on my headphones when I train?

A: “Surprisingly, I don’t listen to music in the gym. I actually focus 100% on the trainer on the App that I use. He is quite a funny guy and really good as a motivator. The App plays music when you’re doing an interval session or lifting some weights – but I couldn’t tell you what it is!”

Q: My favourite exercise in the gym?

A: “The rowing machine is enjoyable because I like the feeling of working my arms and legs at the same time. But, in terms of weights, I really like the leg press. It always surprises me how much I can lift with my legs. I normally push 90 kilos in eight-rep sets. But I did try going up to 120 kilos to really test myself recently. I only managed one rep unfortunately!”
