Practice makes perfect: Getting in some extra laps ahead of season finale
13 September
I’m always looking for opportunities to boost my track time and improve my racecraft. So with that in mind, I decided to pay a visit to my home track in Wohlen to prepare for my final Swiss Championship race.
My ultimate aim for this season is to retain the Swiss Championship title I worked so hard to win in 2022. I’m therefore determined to have a strong final round at Wohlen later this month. I’m currently P1 in the 2023 OK Junior and leading the championship by 17 points, but I know there is still more for me to do and that only hard work will get me across the finish line.
That is why I decided to take part in a Rotax Max race last weekend. Despite being a different category to OKJ, it gave me an extra opportunity to experience the Wohlen track.
I performed well during the races and was really happy to come away with the win! I now know the track conditions a bit better, and how these affect the grip. Usually there isn’t so much grip at this track, but I learned that I could move away from the racing line when needed and still succeed.
I was also able to maintain good consistency in my performances and lap times, which is the most important thing to get right for qualifying. Mastering the perfect lap, and then being able to repeat it, will be the key to gaining an advantage on my rivals in the crucial moments.
My recent experience at Wohlen also helped me to bridge the gap in my schedule after competing in the WSK Euro Series two weeks ago. I enjoyed racing at Franciacorta and achieved my best international result ever with P13!
I’m looking forward to returning to Franciacorta this weekend to race in Round 5 of Champions of the Future OKJ. It is a very smooth track but it is also hard to overtake. I’m therefore expecting a tough challenge.
This weekend will be much colder than the last Champions of the Future round in July in Cremona, meaning there will be a lot less grip. I think that will be good for us because the conditions will be similar to last weekend at Wohlen. I’m hoping that will give me an advantage.
I will also visit Franciacorta again for my last race of the year when I compete in the World Championship between 5-8 October. That’s obviously a race I’m super excited about!
I’m very pleased that I put my free weekend to good use at Wohlen so I can extract the maximum results from the races that are left. This sport is all about constant improvement and evolving into the best driver you can. I’m determined to make that happen.
